Backwash my Hayward sand pool filter the pressure goes shooting up
After I backwash my Hayward sand pool filter (3 yrs old) it the pressure goes shooting up.? Tried backwashing it 4 times, twice with sanitizer, which is no easy trick cause I’m in the middle of the block and have to back wash into the street-so far no one has said anything. A lot of dirt is coming out. Should I just keep backwashing?

When it is in the first step of backwashing, unplug it and let it stay in that cycle for 1-2 hours. This should get rid of all the debris in the filter.
It may be time for a sand change:) When’s the last time you changed the sand? It may be cloged.
When backwashing, the pump off from breaker backwash a min, turn back on at breaker, turn pump to rinse, rinse a minute and then turn back on filter. If it’s still clogging it may be time for a sand change.
It could also be one of the arms in the bottom of the sand filter are bad, that happened a lot when I was in the pool business. Take the top off your filter, vacuum all sand out with a shop vac and check the arms on the bottom of your filter, could be 8-10 of them, if one is loose, it would cause sand to come out. It’s not expensive to replace them all. I think less than a few bucks a piece. Go to your local pool store, they’ll tell you exactly what to do. Also, when changing the sand, after you’ve vacuumed it out, get the approx. pounds it has on the filter, usually 250 or something, and refill. I would honestly recommend changing the sand every few years in a chlorine pool. It’s very inexpensive.
Also you shouldn’t be backwashing with sanitizer, you shouldn’t be using anything to backwash with. The sanitizer may go into your pump and cause the sand to clump up. Definitely time for a sand change, my friend.
