Use a pool sand filter and how to back flush
How to use a pool sand filter and how to back flush? I am new to this and very confused. There is debris at the bottom of the pool, and it is very cloudy. I have a sand filter, how often to i back flush? Someone told me that i have to backflush every time the pin points at “20″. I have been doing that, but only clean water comes out of the hose. It also has a small glass barrel with clean water in it. How do I know that the filter is actually working? Should I leave it on over-night?

Above ground pool questions for setup
Above ground pool questions for setup? Instead of draining all the water & taking it down, I left it up with about a foot of water in it. The crappy pool cover that came with it just wouldn’t stay on, so we forgot about it. The water is terribly dirty, should I drain all the way or refill & clean it.
I’ve invested this year in a higher performance sand filter & a chlorine/algaecide generator so cleaning shouldn’t be a problem, i just wonder if there’s something i’m overlooking. Also, where can I get a decent cover, because when I put that cheap one on the wind would immediately catch under it (no matter how tight) and blow it right off.
Shutting the pool system down in a few hours
Small amount of air in jets only on start-up? If I shut the pool system down for a few hours and it starts up, I see no air coming in through the pump side, but I see a small amount of air come out of one jet. Now when I shut off the motor, I hear a small amount of hissing like air coming from the backwash or drain pipe hole. It stops if I cover the pipe with my hand. I have see the pool drop about 1/8″ -3/16″ over 2 days, which can be accounted for by evaporation since the pool is not covered and we have hot days and cool nights.
I don’t think it is something to fret over, but wanted to ask if the problem is the sand filter head letting air in during off times vs the other which would be a leak in the return to pool line?
