Help from a pool expert

Help from a pool expert!! filter problem? I have a hayward multiport filter and when in filter position I have water leaking out my waste pipe, and also the handle don’t want to seem to sit down tight after moving it. Also when in backwash position water is not even close to coming out as strong as it did before .

The problems all started when I tried to vacuum up sand on the bottom of my pool after I noticed the pipe inside the tank had broken an sand went right into the pool, since then I have fixed the pipe an added new sand. Did i screw up something on the filter by trying to vaccume the sand out of the pool I should have done it in waste but did it in filter position.. Help
